Amy B. Thompson

Chair, NPTI Colorado Advisory Board


Amy provides a wide range of services in the health and fitness industry. She is a Program Director, Fitness Trainer, Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Sports Massage Therapist and International Presenter. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical & Health Education from George Mason University and multiple certificates in Nutritional and Lifestyle Coaching. Amy was a two-sport Collegiate and Semi-Pro Athlete, which naturally led her to a career as a fitness professional and health educator.


For over twenty years Amy worked in commercial clubs as Fitness Manager, Sports Director, General Manager and then National Fitness & Program Director for two separate large club chains. Under Amy’s leadership, the clubs offered Internship programs for fitness professionals, launched the inaugural season of the National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL), created and implemented fitness and wellness programs that helped thousands of club members reach goals and incorporated a company-wide member retention program which tracked 12% increase in program adherence.

Amy has been a finalist for IDEA Program Director of the Year and has been a contributing fitness expert for NBC, KFMB, San Diego Union Tribune, American Council on Exercise and IDEA. She maintains memberships with organizations who are committed to her vision of improving quality of life and environmental conservation.


Amy Abraham

Amy left the corporate world after nearly 20 years to pursue a passion in health and fitness, and have more flexibility in her schedule to raise her two young children.  She graduated with honors from NPTI CO and became a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM in 2012.


In 2013 she opened the Powered By You Training Studio in Littleton, CO, where they are thrilled to be celebrating their 5th anniversary and looking at options for expansion.  Amy has enjoyed helping personal training students learn what it takes to open and run a successful personal training business by teaching the Business of Personal Training elective course at NPTI CO.



Matthew Bernier

Advisory Board Member


Matthew graduated from George Mason University in 1994 with a Degree in Physical Education. During this time he developed a passion for exercise and helping others. Being in the fitness field for the last 20+ years he has taught anatomy and exercise mechanics in many different venues and loves helping others increase their understand of the human body. Matthew currently resides in Denver, Colorado where he owns / operates a one-on-one exercise and body work facility, "The Muscle Project".



Julie Cross

Advisory Board Member


Julie has been with Wellbridge since 2013 where she started as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. In 2014 she promoted to Group fitness and Pilates Manager, promoted again in 2016 and moved to the Tabor Center where she became Manager of Group Fitness, Yoga and Pilates and later in 2016 assumed the role of Personal Training Manager.


Prior to moving to the United States in 2011, Julie was a serving Police officer with Essex Police for 10 years assuming various roles within the Police force and finishing her career as a Public Order Medic and a nationally recognized Public Order Tactics Trainer. After moving to the U.S., in 2011 she started working in fitness  full time with the United States Air Force, teaching fitness classes at Cannon AFB and working with airmen to pass fitness test requirements.

Nick Clayton

Nick Clayton is the Personal Training Program Manager for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has 16 years of experience, most notably starting a performance program at TMI Sports Medicine, managing the fitness programs at the University of Florida, and owning a small corporate fitness business.  Nick earned his MS in Exercise Science and his MBA from the University of Florida and is considered an expert in program design/exercise selection and business development.

Matthew Forster

Matt is originally from Long Island, New York where he grew up playing baseball. He is an avid Yankees fan and NY Jets fan. He moved to Colorado to meet his niece and eventually moved here. He met his future wife while attending and teaching at the National Personal Training Institute where he graduated from.  Both Hannah (his wife to be) and Matt were personal trainers at 24-Hour Fitness for many years until they decided to open their own facility after five years of working for someone else.  Matt is NSCA - CPT certified, has a daughter named Lucy, and says, "We love it that Lucy has the opportunity to grow up in the midst of such an amazing gym community with such amazing people."

Brenda E. Maller

Brenda E. Maller has been a Personal Fitness Trainer for the past 28 years. As a personal trainer, she is unique in both her education and focus.  Brenda has a  dual Bachelors of Science in Sports Medicine and Occupational Safety from Keene State College, Ms. Maller also has a Masters of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado.


For the past fifteen years, Miss Maller has collaborated with Flatiron Athletic Club (FAC), now Colorado Athletic Club, one of the leading fitness facilities in Colorado.  At FAC/CAC she has had the opportunity to train triathletes, pro cyclists and olympic athletes.  Brenda also just received the honor of top trainer of Wellbridge gyms across the country.  She continues to teach numerous Spin classes and currently personal trains over 70 clients.  

Kim Stevens

Advisory Board Member


Kim has been a leader in the health club industry for the past 20 years and has a proven record of building industry leading fitness departments.  After earning top honors and a B.S in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida, Kim quickly launched her career in personal training and group fitness by obtaining certifications with the National Strength and Conditioning as a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certifications.  Kim’s passion for triathlons motivated her to receive her USA triathlon level 1 coaching Certification to train athletes of all levels for endurance events. In 2015 she led the number one revenue generating Personal Training department in over 100 clubs for Lifetime Fitness. Throughout her career, Kim has held positions to include Group Fitness Coordinator, Personal Training Director, Aquatics Coordinator, Corporate Wellness Manager as well as Assistant General Manager.


Andrew J. Tessel

Tessel has been working with 24 Hour Fitness since 2011 where he started as a membership Counselor before realizing how much he enjoyed helping people. In 2013 Andrew was promoted from Master Trainer to Assistant Fitness Manager at the Lowry location. Later that year he was promoted to Fitness Manager at Highlands Garden Location. In 2015, he then switched to Meridian location where the regional offices are held. In 2016 Andrew then was promoted to Fitness Manager III at Alameda and Colorado where he helps teaching the PT foundations class for all new trainers and assists other Fitness Managers in the company on boarding or mastering their craft.

Bobby Zuniga

Bobby has been changing the bodies lives in the fitness industry for 14 years. Originally seeking a degree in Physical Therapy then gaining nearly 100lbs following a football injury, he changed his pursuit to an Exercise Science major after overcoming his own battles with obesity and realizing his passion for helping others. On his was to opening his own Personal Training and Group Training facility, he also obtained Personal Training Certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, International Sports Sciences Association and American Council on Exercise. He is also a certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Bobby currently owns and operates Training for Warriors in Lakewood, CO where, with the assistance of his staff, he works with 200+ individuals every day with the sole mission of helping them "Burn Fat, Build Muscle and Feel Good".

Philippe Ray

  • Phil is from Columbus, GA, a father of three (Whitney, Hunter, and Dylan), a 3d generation military veteran, a former power lifter with a 405 lb. personal best bench press, and a cyclist.  In 2011, Phil rode the Double Triple ByPass totaling 23,000 feet of climbing over 243 miles and 23 hours of cycling. In a little over eight years, Phil took NPTI Colorado from being a local, Colorado vocational school to being an accredited career technical school with VA education benefits, international students, and listed by the U.S. Department of Education.
